For over 70 years, we have looked up at the Wilder Kaiser with fascination every day and agree that even after decades of admiration, we still can't get enough of it. At the 4-star superior hotel Das Kaiserblick, we sometimes even get the feeling that we are not the only ones casting curious glances at the mountain ridge - now and again, they seem to be reciprocated by the ‘Kaiser’ himself. We are mesmerised by the Wilder Kaiser, so overwhelming is its ancient, silent presence.

Rough stone iridesces in the soft glow of the rising sun. High-contrast rock formations criss-crossed with dark veins rise impressively into the sky. The view sweeps along the silhouette of the mountain range, past wispy clouds and down to the occasional tree, which daringly clings to the steep slopes of the ‘Kaiser’. Sometimes it hides its crown, perhaps to hide from longing admirers. Between the rocks and hiking trails, there are traces of old tales, legends and stories that run like roots through the region and continue to fascinate people to this day.
The mountain makes the rules: You are taught this from an early age in the region. A critical look at the weather is essential for a successful mountain tour. The protagonist of this regional legend should probably have followed this advice:
The story goes that a hiker once got caught in a life-threatening thunderstorm on the Wilder Kaiser. In his hopelessness, the Koasamandl, a small mountain spirit with a beard and felt hat, appeared to him. With the help of the Koasamandl, the hiker found safe shelter among the barren rock and returned home from the mountain in one piece. This miraculous event is said to have taken place below the largest peak in the Kaiser Mountains, the ‘Ellmauer Halt’. A must for experienced mountaineers in search of the myths of the Wilder Kaiser.
The water plunges 60 metres over the stone cliffs. The waterfall welcomes its guests with cool, face-tickling spray. The unbridled power of nature can be felt in every drop, the atmosphere is electrifying and invites you to recharge your batteries and simply enjoy. So it's no wonder that the Schleier Waterfall in Ellmau is rumoured to be home to hidden powers and mountain spirits. A feeling of peace and awe is said to await you at this special natural spectacle.
At Hotel Das Kaiserblick, we realised early on what effect the Wilder Kaiser has on people:
